  • Members of Rhiwbina RFC raise over £10,000 for charity with pledge to run 100km in January

Following the saddening news of Rhiwbina RFC Vice Chairman David Hobbs being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, members and supporters of the club will raise money by running 100km each in January.

Proceeds from the event will be given to mental health charity MIND and WRU partners School of Hard Knocks.

Commencing from the start of the month, runners have taken to Twitter to showcase pictures as they tackle down the 100km milestone.

What started out as a handful of people hoping to make a difference has spiralled into over 240 runners doing their bit for charity.

The Just Giving page, initially with the target of raising £1000, has now earned over £11,000, with over 550 people donating thus far.

Cardiff’s rugby community have come together to help the cause, with Clwb Rygbi Cymru Caerdydd also getting in on the action.

Hobbs, known to many as ‘Dave’ or ‘Dai’, has also voiced his wish to follow in his mother’s footsteps by publishing a book.

Donations will be taken throughout January. If you wish to donate to the Just Giving page, do so here.
